The Energy Act – Appointments
- H.E. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces, appointed Lawrence O. Gumbe (Prof. Eng) to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Nuclear Power and Energy Agency, for four years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.
- Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, James Opiyo Wandayi, has appointed Martha Nyangwaria to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, for three (3) years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.
- Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, James Opiyo Wandayi, has appointed Anne Michura to be a member of the Board of the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.
The State Corporations Act – Appointments
- H.E. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces, appointed Sylvanus Maritim to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Industrial Estates, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025. The appointment of Lily Ng’ok is revoked.
- H.E. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces, appointed Lily Ng’ok to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of the Information and Communications Technology Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025. The appointment of Sylvanus Maritim is revoked.
- Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Mutahi Kagwe, appointed Wario Pius Yattani to be a member of the Board of the Kenya Animal Genetics Resource Centre, for three years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.
- Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Mutahi Kagwe, re-appoints George Amos Odhiambo Oballa to be a member of the Board of the Kenya Animal Genetics Resource Centre, for three years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.
- Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, William Kabogo, appointed Leah Manyarkiy, Christopher Matseshe Naicca, and Dominic Salvio Kariuki Wambugu, to be members of the Board of Directors of the Information and Communications Technology Authority, for three years with effect from the 16th May, 2025. The appointments of Annette Mutuku, Alfred Ngeno, and Michael Njogu Wachira are revoked.
- Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Eric Muriithi Muuga, appointed Jackson Kitili Mwenda (Eng.) to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Regional Centre on Groundwater Resources Education, Training and Research in Eastern Africa, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.
The Public Benefits Organisation Act
- Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, extended the transition period under Regulation 5 (1) of the Fifth Schedule to the Act for a further period of one (1) year, with effect from the 14th May, 2025 until 13th May, 2026. Public Benefit Organisations that have not registered under the Act have until 13th May, 2026 to comply.
The Civil Aviation Act
- Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Davis Chirchir, has established the Aircraft Accident Investigation Team.
The President’s Award Act
- Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, appointed Eugene Masombo to be a member of the Board of Trustees for the President’s Award, for three years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.
The Standards Act – Appointments
- Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry, Lee Kinyanjui, appointed several persons as inspectors for the purposes of the Act.
The Science, Technology and Innovations Act – Re-appointment
- Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Ali Hassan Joho, re-appointed Francis Njonge (Prof.) to be a member of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.
The Mining Act – Appointment
- It was notified for the general information of the public that several persons have been selected to be the members of the Community Development Agreement Committee between Kapturo Community in Baringo County and Zhengwei Techniques Kenya Limited
The Water Act – Appointment
- Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Eric Muriithi Muuga, appointed Daniel Shem Omino to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency, for three years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025. The appointment of Odoyo Owidi is revoked.
The Kenya Heroes Act 2014 – Appointment
- Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage, Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, appointed Abdullahi Nur Sheikh Kassim to be a member of the National Heroes Council, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.
The National Drought Management Authority Act – Appointment
- Cabinet Secretary for East African Community (EAC), The ASALs and Regional Development, Beatrice Askul Moe, appointed Jattani Kuse Godana to be a member of the National Drought Management Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.
The Land Act
- The National Land Commission, on behalf of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), gave notice that the Government intends to acquire several parcels of land for upgrading Embakasi Slip Road to Bitumen Standard in Nairobi Eastern Bypass in Nairobi City County.
- The National Land Commission, on behalf of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), gave notice that the National Government intends to delete, correct and add several parcels of land required for the construction of the Mombasa Gate Bridge Project in Mombasa and Kwale Counties.
- The National Land Commission, on behalf of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), gave notice of the dates for the inquiry to hear claims to compensation for interested parties in the land required for the Construction of Mombasa Gate Bridge Project – Bridge Approaches (MGB) Project.
Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced the following adjustments applicable to all electricity meter readings taken in May 2025, as per the Schedule of Tariffs, 2023:
- Fuel Energy Cost Charge: An additional KSh 3.67 per kWh will apply.
- Foreign Exchange Fluctuation Adjustment: An extra KSh 1.2818 per kWh will be charged due to currency fluctuations.
- Water Resource Management Authority (WRMA) Levy: An added KSh 0.0146 per kWh will be applied.
Consumers are advised to take note of these charges when reviewing their May 2025 electricity bills.
The Political Parties Act
- Registrar of Political Parties gave notice that the Entrust Pioneer Party (EPP) intends to change the location of the party’s head office to 1st Floor, Mugoya Shopping Center, South C, from Unit No. 15, Mogotio Lane, Westlands. Any person with written submissions concerning the intended change by the political party shall within seven (7) days from 16th May 2025, deposit them with the Registrar of Political Parties.
- The United Party of Independent Alliance (UPIA) plans to change its officials, appointing Amb. Ukur Yatani as Party Leader and Iltasayon Neepe as National Chairperson, replacing Dr. Nuh Nassir. Objections must be submitted to the Registrar of Political Parties within 7 days from 5th May 2025.
- Vision for Development Alliance (VIDA) and Hekima Alliance Party (HAPA), have applied for provisional registration. Members of the public have 7 days from 5th May 2025 to submit objections to the Registrar of Political Parties.
The Anti-Counterfeit Act
- The Anti-Counterfeit Authority has appointed several persons as inspectors for the purposes of enforcing the provisions of the Act, with effect from the 2nd January, 2025. The appointments of several other persons have since been revoked.
The Labour Relations Act
- The Kenya Union of Gig Workers has applied for registration as a trade union. The public and relevant parties have 21 days from 16th May 2025 to submit any written objections to the Registrar.
The Statutory Instruments Act
- The Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, has developed Regulatory Impact Statements for the following draft regulations to operationalise the Children Act (Cap. 141) Laws of Kenya. The National Council for Children’s Services (NCCS), on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, invites the public to submit views or comments on the Regulatory Impact Statements. The call for submissions /comments will run until 26th May, 2025, by 5.00 p.m. The locations for physical public engagement meetings have similarly been provided.
