Urban Areas and Cities Bill

The Urban Areas and Cities (Amendment) Bill, (the “Bill”) was read a first time in the Senate on 7 November 2017. The Bill is sponsored by Kipchumba Murkomen, the Senator for Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The Bill follows the approval made by the Cabinet on 28 September 2017 to amend the Urban Areas and Cities Act to provide for the addition of more cities from the current three – Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.
The Bill is now in the Committee of Land, Environment and Natural Resources for review and public participation.
