New Reforms to the structure of the National Police Service

A Special Issue was on 30th July 2026 gazetted that outlined new reforms to the structure of the National Police Service. 

Key structural changes introduced by the amendment 

  • Kenya Police Service  
  • Added: Nairobi Metropolitan Police, Kenya Police Quick Response Unit, Government Vehicle Check Unit.  
  • Renamed:  Traffic Police Unit to Kenya Police Traffic Unit 

Airports Police Unit to Kenya Airports Police Unit 

K9 Unit to K9 Police Unit 

Marine Police Unit to Kenya Police Marine Unit 

  • Merged: Railway Police Unit into Kenya Railways & Ports Police Unit 
  • Administration Police Service  
  • Added: Judiciary Police Unit, Energy Police Unit, Mining Police Unit, Water Police Unit, National Government Administration Police Unit 
  • Renamed: Rapid Deployment Unit, Border Patrol Unit, Anti-Stock Theft Unit, and Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit to their respective Police Unit names.  
  • Directorate of Criminal Investigations  
  • Added: Investigations Bureau, Operations Bureau, Homicide Investigations Bureau, INTERPOL–National Central Bureau 
  • Renamed: Forensic Laboratory to National Police Service Forensic Laboratory 
  • Anti-Narcotics Unit to National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau.  
  • Merged: Railways Criminal Investigations into Kenya Railways & Ports Criminal Investigations
