Justice Mohamed Abdulahi Warsame has been nominated for appointment to the Supreme Court of Kenya, marking a key development in his judicial career and his potential elevation to the country’s apex court. The nomination follows a vacancy that arose after the passing of Justice Mohammed Kadhar Ibrahim in December 2025. The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) subsequently conducted a competitive recruitment process, including public advertisement, shortlisting, and interviews.

Justice Warsame is currently serving as a Judge of the Court of Appeal of Kenya. He has held the position since 2012, following his elevation from the High Court, where he was appointed in 2003. Over the years, he has gained extensive judicial experience across both trial and appellate courts.

At the High Court, he served in the Commercial, Criminal, and Judicial Review divisions. There, he handled a wide range of complex matters and developed a strong record in case management and disposal. His work contributed to improved efficiency in handling cases within his service registries.

Prior to joining the Judiciary, he practiced as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, which form the academic foundation of his legal career.

Beyond adjudication, Justice Warsame has held key administrative roles within the Judiciary. He served as Chairman of the Community Service and Probation Committee, where he oversaw non-custodial sentencing programmes that led to the release of over 7,000 petty offenders through community service orders, contributing to prison decongestion and restorative justice efforts.

In 2013, he was elected by Court of Appeal judges to serve as a Commissioner to the Judicial Service Commission under Article 171(2)(c) of the Constitution. He served on the Finance and Administration Committee and the Human Resource Committee, contributing to governance and institutional decision-making within the Judiciary.

Justice Warsame has served under multiple Chief Justices and is experienced in collegial court environments. He is regarded as having strong jurisprudential and institutional leadership experience, particularly in appellate adjudication.
