Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ol Kalou Constituency in Nyandarua County. He was elected in the 2026 by-election following the death of the late MP David Njuguna Kiaraho. He secured a landslide victory over the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate on the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) ticket. His election marked a significant political win for the opposition and was widely viewed as a reflection of the evolving political landscape in the Mt. Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.  

Waweru enters Parliament as a first-term legislator representing one of Nyandarua County’s key agricultural constituencies. Throughout his campaign, he focused on addressing the concerns of farmers, traders, women and young people, while advocating accountable leadership, improved public service delivery and greater economic opportunities. Following his victory, he called on national leadership to respond to ordinary Kenyans’ concerns, particularly the high cost of living, economic empowerment and inclusive development.  

Representing Ol Kalou, Waweru’s legislative priorities are expected to centre on agriculture, rural infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth employment and the expansion of essential public services. The constituency’s economy is predominantly driven by dairy and potato farming, horticulture and small-scale trade, making policies that strengthen agricultural value chains, improve market access, enhance rural roads and support farmers particularly important. He is also expected to advocate increased investment in education, healthcare facilities and other development projects aimed at improving livelihoods within the constituency.  

Waweru joins the National Assembly at a time when Parliament is considering major reforms in the economy, taxation, agriculture, public finance management and devolution. As the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou, he will represent the constituency’s interests in legislative debates, contribute to parliamentary committee work and oversee the implementation of national government programmes and projects within the constituency.  

As his parliamentary career begins, Waweru’s performance is likely to be assessed by his ability to deliver on his campaign commitments, secure development resources for Ol Kalou and influence legislation on agriculture, rural development and socio-economic growth. His tenure will also be closely watched as an indicator of DCP’s growing political influence and its ability to translate electoral success into legislative impact in the National Assembly.
