Larry Madowo, a Kenyan journalist, has recently made headlines for denying claims that he was paid to damage Tanzania’s reputation following his reporting on the post-election violence in the country last month. Madowo, however, dismissed these allegations as false attempts to discredit his journalism. Around the same time, viral videos circulated claiming that Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni had warned him not to enter Uganda for election coverage, and that Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan had condemned him. The videos, however, were confirmed to be manipulated.

Madowo works as an international correspondent for CNN International, based in Nairobi, and hosts programmes that highlight leaders and influencers across Africa. He earned a degree in communication from Daystar University and completed a Knight-Bagehot fellowship in business and economics journalism at Columbia University in New York. He began his career as a trainee reporter at KTN in Kenya, then moved to NTV Kenya, and later to international outlets. His reporting covers major political, economic, and social issues across Africa and globally. He combines field reporting with in-depth analysis on elections, conflicts, human rights, and public policy debates. Widely regarded as one of Kenya’s most prominent media figures, he is known for thoughtful journalism, strong storytelling, and a global profile that includes appearances and contributions across multiple platforms, as well as participation in key events on African issues.
