MP Musa Cherutich Sirma
Eldama Ravine Member of Parliament (MP) Musa Cherutich Sirma is facing arrest over a long-standing election petition debt. The order stems from a case dating back to 2017, when Sirma unsuccessfully challenged the results of the Eldama Ravine parliamentary election and was ordered to pay costs amounting to KSh 2.7 million. Despite making a partial payment, he has not settled the remaining balance, and his absence from recent hearings prompted the court to escalate the matter.
MP Sirma began his career at the Kenya Forest Service, where he worked as a District Forest Officer for over a decade (1986–1997). His background in natural resources management provided him with a foundation in public administration and community service before he moved into politics. Hon. Sirma first entered Parliament in 1997 as the MP for Eldama Ravine on a KANU ticket, a position he held until 2007. During this time, he was actively involved in constituency representation and later served in the Cabinet. Notably, between 2010 and 2013, he was appointed Minister for East African Community and Regional Cooperation, where he was responsible for regional integration matters. After losing his parliamentary seat to Moses Lessonet in 2007, he spent several years outside elective office, making unsuccessful bids in 2013 and 2017 before returning in the 2022 general election on a UDA ticket.
Beyond politics, he has ventured into business, notably in the timber and sawmilling industry, where his firms have occasionally faced controversy and legal disputes. In Parliament, he serves as Chairperson of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) Committee, where he has advocated for increased allocations for bursaries, school feeding programmes, and investment in constituency-level environmental and digital infrastructure.
Hon. Sirma attended Kabimoi Primary School from 1969 to 1975 before progressing to Baringo High School and later Njoro High School for his A-Levels. He further studied at Egerton University, where he obtained a Diploma in Forestry in 1986. He also holds a Bachelor of Business Management degree from Mount Kenya University in 2016.
