Gloria Orwoba has been in the public spotlight since her suspension from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on May 16, 2025, over allegations of disloyalty and gross misconduct. The party cited her participation in political events involving former Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior Fred Matiang’i, as well as public criticism of key government programmes, as grounds for disciplinary action. The UDA National Executive Committee ratified her expulsion and subsequently communicated to the Senate Speaker. A court battle ensued to bar the Senate from suspending her over gross misconduct. Earlier in the year, she had lost a court battle to prevent the Senate from suspending her over the same allegations.

Orwoba was nominated to the Senate in 2022 by UDA. She served as a member of the Senate Committee on Labour and Social Welfare, the Committee on National Cohesion, Equal Opportunity and Regional Integration, and the Committee on Delegated Legislation.

She is the co-founder of the Uji Ya Glo Nutrition Programme, which has been providing students in 13 elementary schools in Bobasi Constituency, Kisii County, with a cup of porridge and slices of bread for many years.

In 2015, she relocated to Sweden with her family, briefly returning to Kenya in 2017, where she unsuccessfully vied for the Kisii County Executive position for Youth Affairs. She moved back to Kenya in 2019 and a year later took up the position of country coordinator for the Global Youth Parliament. She has also served as country manager for Rangi Yetu, a non-profit organisation focused on community empowerment.

Orwoba attended State House Primary School before joining St. George’s Girls’ Secondary School, where she sat for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). She holds a diploma in architecture and a degree in social work from the University of Nairobi. Currently, she is pursuing a degree in Leadership and Management.
