Who is Who: Meet Raimond Molenje, the new Acting CEO of Kenya Bankers Association
Mr Molenje joined the Kenya Bankers Association in 2018 and has 19 years of experience in legal and regulatory practice, human capital, and policy advocacy, having held senior management roles in leading business member organisations. Until his appointment, Raimond served as the Director of Legal, Human Resources and Policy Advocacy at the institution, holding the position since 2021. During his tenure, Molenje was responsible for Legal Affairs, Human Resources and Compliance. He also spearheaded the Coordination of the Human Resources and Ethics Committee and the Legal Affairs and Compliance Committee of KBA. In addition, he administered Secretarial functions to KBA’s Governing Council and the General Body. Still in his capacity, Molenje offered Legal and HR Advisory and Support to members.
Mr Raimond Molenje is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Commissioner for Oaths and Notary Public. He is also a member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM). Furthermore, the new KBA CEO, in an acting capacity, holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) degree from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. Mr Molenje has a high merit grade in International Human Resource Management from Cambridge International College in the UK, where he studied from 2016 to 2017.
He has worked as an HR Advisor at De La Rue Currency and Security Print, Legal Manager at the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE), and HR Manager-Employee Relations at Equity Bank Group, among others. In his various roles, Mr. Molenje spearheaded the effective and efficient management of legislative, regulatory and policy matters impacting the industry. Additionally, he coordinated the collective bargaining agreement negotiations with the Banking Insurance and Finance Union (BIFU) Kenya. He is a lecturer at the College of Human Resources Management. Despite that, he is a member of the Auctioneers and Licensing Board under the Attorney-General’s Office as well as the Mediation Accreditation Committee of the Judiciary representing the industry. In advocacy, Raimond Molenje worked with several law firms as a legal counsel and twice as an associate advocate.
He worked with J.A. Abuodha & Company Advocates from November 2004 to July 2008 and Kairu & McCourt Advocates from August 2008 to January 2010. At the two law firms, he was tasked with conducting successful litigation, legal protection, and risk management. He also participated in preparing, reviewing, modifying, and managing contracts, agreements, and other documentation, among other roles.
