Nigeria hunts four Kenyans over CBEX crypto breach
 Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched a manhunt for four Kenyans linked to a Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX) breach, a crypto and forex trading platform. About two weeks ago, users across Kenya, Nigeria, and Egypt reportedly lost funds in the breach.

Australian firm commits $523m to develop gold project
Australia’s Perseus Mining Limited has committed approximately $523 million (about TSh 1.4 trillion) to develop the Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania. The project had been on hold pending negotiations with the government.

Uganda

EU backs Uganda’s electricity expansion drive
Uganda’s ambitious plan to achieve universal electricity access by 2030 has received support from the European Union. The country aims to increase its capacity from 2 gigawatts to 52 gigawatts by 2040. The EU is leveraging its €300 billion Global Gateway strategy to help bridge investment and infrastructure gaps.

Kerry opens taste manufacturing facility to boost local industry
 Kerry Group has launched its first taste manufacturing facility in Rwanda to support local food and beverage manufacturers. This forms part of the company’s €1 billion global investment in emerging markets. Local regulators, manufacturers, and representatives from the Embassy of Ireland attended the event.

Ethio Telecom to re-issue unsold shares after poor IPO performance
Ethio Telecom will re-issue unsold shares from its initial public offering, which saw a lacklustre uptake despite over 47,000 investors buying into it. CEO Frehiwot Tamiru attributed the shortfall to strict investor eligibility rules and insufficient public awareness.

Sudan’s General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo to discuss post-war reconstruction and regional water security. The leaders held both private and expanded delegation talks at the Ittihadiya Palace.

Somalia

Egypt-Somalia defence ties strained by Mogadishu’s pivot toward Ethiopia
Relations between Somalia and Egypt have soured following a breakdown in their 2024 military cooperation agreement. Egypt has suspended plans to deploy special forces to Somalia, frustrated by Mogadishu’s rapprochement with Ethiopia. Sources say Cairo had planned to send over 1,000 elite troops and helicopters to support operations in the Middle Shabelle region.
