The National Assembly is calling for comments and views on the National Policy on Labour Migration (Sessional Paper No. 5 of 2023 ).This is line with the provisions of Article 118 (1) (b) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.The policy seeks to promote inclusive and sustainable development of the Country through safe, orderly and productive labour migration. The specific objectives of the policy include:enhancing coordination of labour migration governance,protecting human and labour rights and welfare of Kenyan migrant workers,maximising participation of Kenyan migrant workers in economic development,among others.
Views should be submitted to the Clerk of the National Assembly via hand delivery or email to cna@parliament.go.ke on or before 1st November 2024.
The hearing of applications related to the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is scheduled for this Tuesday at 10 a.m. Justices Eric Ogola, Dr. Freda Mugambi, and Antony Mrima will consider arguments from both legal teams on whether to set aside or extend the conservatory orders that stayed the implementation of the Senate’s decision to impeach Hon. Gachagua. This follows Justice Ogola’s dismissal of a request by the former Deputy President to have the three-judge bench recuse itself over alleged conflicts of interest, affirming that the current bench is competent to hear the main petition and related applications. Meanwhile, Deputy President nominee Prof. Kithure Kindiki awaits swearing-in, pending the outcome of these applications.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Board will meet with Kenya’s delegation this Thursday for the seventh and eighth reviews of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and Extended Credit Facility (ECF). The Board will also conduct the second review of the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) arrangement with Kenya. These much-anticipated meetings follow delays in disbursements under the programs after the Finance Bill 2024 was withdrawn in June. The Central Bank of Kenya anticipates that the reviews will put the program back on track, enabling Kenya to receive the next loan tranche of Ksh 113 billion.
The Supreme Court of Kenya is holding its Supreme Court@ 12 Conference from the 4th -7th November 2024. The theme of the Conference is Reflecting and Introspecting on the Supreme Court’s Jurisprudence:12 Years of Defending the Constitution of Kenya. There will also be circuit lectures being carried out by the Supreme Court Judges from 31st October 2024 to 7th November 2024 at various law schools within Nairobi. Topics will revolve around the Supreme Court’s jurisprudence on various aspects of the law.
Stanley Karanja has been appointed as the CEO and principal officer of KUSCCO Mutual Assurance. He has an extensive background in the banking and insurance sectors. Most notably, in his career, he was the Head of Group Business at Madison Group Kenya where he served for seven years. Prior to becoming Head of Group Business, he was also the National Sales Manager Group Business, a position he held for three years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Sociology from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. He also has a master’s degree in Business Administration from Strathmore Business School. In addition, Stanley has also pursued two diplomas: one is in marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the other is in Insurance from the Chartered Institute of Insurance.
