Crunch time for tax laws and key public hearings.

This week marks the deadline for submissions on the proposed tax laws by the National Assembly. Public hearings will take place from Monday 25th November 2024 to Thursday, 28th November 2024, covering the following bills:

  • Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024
  • Tax Procedures (Amendment) Bill, 2024
  • Public Finance Management (Amendment) (No.3) Bill, 2024
  • Public Finance Management (Amendment) (No.4) Bill, 2024

Also on the agenda, the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning, alongside the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Budget, will kick off an approval hearing today, 25th November 2024, for the nominated CBK Deputy Governor, Mr Gerald Nyaoma Arita.

All Eyes on ODM Grassroots Elections

The ODM is gearing up for its grassroots elections nationwide on November 27th, and you can bet all eyes will be on them! Past party elections have been known to stir up some drama, with divisive and chaotic moments leading to major fallouts. Following the elections, Raila Odinga will head to Kisii County this Thursday, November 28th for a rally and thanksgiving ceremony in honour of Governor Simba Arati. Then, on December 1st, he’ll be in Vihiga County for a similar event organised by Senator Godfrey Osotsi. Party members are expected to show up at their respective polling stations on Monday, 25th November, to elect presiding officers ahead of the big day.

The Environment and Land Court Climate Change Conference

The ELC Climate Change Conference, scheduled from this Monday to Friday, 29th November 2024, will take place at Moi University School of Law in Eldoret. Building on the momentum of the ELC @10 conference, this year’s event will focus on the intersection of climate change, environmental justice, and legal frameworks. With the theme “The Role of the Courts in Remedying Climate Chaos: A Call for Distributive and Procedural Justice,” the conference will delve into the judiciary’s pivotal role in addressing climate change, protecting human rights, and ensuring sustainable development.

Standard Chartered Bank has appointed Jaine Mwai as Chief Technology & Operations Officer

Standard Chartered Bank has appointed Jaine Mwai as Chief Technology & Operations Officer (CTO) effective this Monday.

This is in response to Peter Gitau’s resignation. Jaine Mwai has a graduate diploma in public accounting from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and a bachelor’s degree in management economics from the University of Guelph in Ontario. She is also a graduate of the Federation of Kenya Employers’ Female Future Leadership Development Program. Additionally, she is certified in Artificial Intelligence Implications for Business Strategy from the MIT Sloan School of Management and Digital Transformation Strategy from the Yale School of Management.
