The Appropriations Bill FY 2025/26

The Appropriations Bill for the 2025/26 financial year is currently in the final stages of parliamentary processing before it is forwarded for presidential assent. The Bill outlines how funds will be allocated across government ministries and agencies in line with the approved budget estimates. Its passage is essential to operationalising the Finance Act, enabling the government to access the Consolidated Fund and begin implementing its spending plans from July 1. Parliament is expected to pave the way for the President’s assent.

June 25th Protests

On 25th June 2025, Kenya will witness a series of peaceful protests held in remembrance of those who lost their lives while peacefully demonstrating against the Finance Bill in 2024. The protests also seek justice for Albert Ojwang, who died under suspicious circumstances while in police custody, as well as Boniface Kariuki, who was shot during recent demonstrations. These events have stirred national reflection on the right to protest, police accountability, and the urgent need for reforms to safeguard civil liberties in the country.
