National Assembly Recess Post-Gachagua Impeachment

The National Assembly will embark on a short recess from this Tuesday, 22nd October  to 14th November , 2024, following an eventful past two weeks. This recess comes on the heels of a historic vote in which 282 members impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while President Ruto nominated his replacement, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, who was serving as Cabinet Secretary for Interior & National Administration. As the assembly takes a moment to regroup, the echoes of this significant decision will be etched in history books.

Annual World Bank Group (WBG) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Meetings.

A Kenyan delegation, led by Cabinet Secretary National Treasury John Mbadi and officials from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), will participate in this year’s annual World Bank Group (WBG) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) meetings.The meetings will take place in Washington D.C , United States between Monday 21st October and Saturday,26th October 2024.Key highlights of the event include the Plenary session, Development Committee discussions, and meetings of the International Monetary and Financial Committee. Additionally, the week will feature regional briefings, press conferences, and forums centred on international development, the global economy, and financial markets.

Budget Blueprint on the Horizon

This week, the National Budget Review and Outlook Paper (BROP) will be presented in Parliament, while County Budget Review and Outlook Papers (CBROPs) will be tabled in County Assemblies. These crucial documents, recently approved by the cabinet, outline the financial blueprint for the country’s future. Expect a detailed review of last year’s budget performance, updated economic forecasts (covering inflation, growth, and more), and a preview of how next year’s budget will be allocated across vital sectors such as health and education.

J.P. Morgan Chase Names New Country Manager for Kenya

Sailepu Montet has been appointed as the Country Manager for Kenya by J.P. Morgan Chase .Mr. Montet brings over two decades of banking experience from both the public and private sectors, particularly in financial markets. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan Chase, he was the Deputy Director of Financial Markets and Head of Reserves Management at the Central Bank of Kenya, where he served for three years. Before his tenure at the CBK, Mr.Montet held senior positions at Absa Bank Kenya as Vice President of Capital and Liquidity Management and Head of Capital and Liquidity Management at Barclays Bank Kenya.His academic background includes a Master’s degree in Management and Regulation of Risk from the London School of Economics and a First-Class Honours Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics from the University of Leicester. His appointment comes after J.P. Morgan Chase received approval from the Central Bank of Kenya to establish operations in the country, as part of the bank’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).
