This recess comes on the heels of a historic vote in which 282 members impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while President Ruto nominated his replacement, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, who was serving as Cabinet Secretary for Interior & National Administration. This Thursday, Hon. Rigathi Gachagua’s petition challenging the Senate’s resolution to uphold the impeachment charges will be heard before a bench appointed by Chief Justice Martha Koome. The bench will issue appropriate orders and take further action.High Court Judge, Justice Chacha Mwita, who issued conservatory orders halting the implementation of the Senate’s resolution, emphasised that the case holds significant public interest, despite the National Assembly already approving Prof. Kithure Kindiki as Hon. Gachagua’s replacement.
On Tuesday of the same week, a three-judge bench will determine six petitions related to the contested Affordable Housing Act, 2023.Justices Olga Sewe, John Chigiti, and John Mong’are will deliver the judgement on provisions related to the collection of housing levies, including the contested 1.5 percent levy. The petitioners, led by Busia County Senator Okiya Omtatah, argue that the levy was imposed without a feasibility study and that the Commissioner-General of KRA’s responsibilities are limited to KRA’s affairs and cannot extend to collecting the Affordable Housing Levy

Sailepu Montet has been appointed as the Country Manager for Kenya by J.P. Morgan Chase .Mr. Montet brings over two decades of banking experience from both the public and private sectors, particularly in financial markets. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan Chase, he was the Deputy Director of Financial Markets and Head of Reserves Management at the Central Bank of Kenya, where he served for three years. Before his tenure at the CBK, Mr.Montet held senior positions at Absa Bank Kenya as Vice President of Capital and Liquidity Management and Head of Capital and Liquidity Management at Barclays Bank Kenya.His academic background includes a Master’s degree in Management and Regulation of Risk from the London School of Economics and a First-Class Honours Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics from the University of Leicester. His appointment comes after J.P. Morgan Chase received approval from the Central Bank of Kenya to establish operations in the country, as part of the bank’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).
