Senate to Convene Legislative Summit to Assess Devolution Progress

From Tuesday to Thursday, the Senate will hold the Legislative Summit, bringing together senators, members of county assemblies from all 47 devolved units, and key partners. The summit will assess achievements, address policy and legislative gaps in accelerating devolution, and provide a platform for dialogue among key actors. Discussions will also focus on strengthening intergovernmental and intragovernmental relations for the effective implementation of devolution.

UFAA Deadline for Compliance Fast Approaching

The Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA) has set a deadline of March 31, 2025, for all licensees and issuers of securities to comply with its directives. They are required to conduct regular reviews of their records, assess unclaimed financial assets, and implement unclaimed assets policies. Additionally, they must provide evidence to the UFAA confirming compliance with these regulations before the deadline.

Mr Balleith

Bamburi Cement appointed Salem Balleith ,a Tanzanian national, as a Non-Executive Director of  Bamburi Cement PLC ,effective 12th March 2025.

Mr Balleith is a Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA – UK) and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA – TZ), with more than 30 years of experience working for leading Saudi institutions SEDCO Group, Savola Group, and Ernst & Young.

He brings to the Company extensive international experience in investments, financial institutions, industry, accounting, auditing & taxation, strategic formulation & implementation, and corporate governance, as well as hands-on business management at both board and senior executive levels.

In August 2015, Salem was appointed to the Board of Directors of Amana Bank Limited and served as Chairman of its Audit, Risk, and Compliance Committee. Amana Bank is Tanzania’s first fully Sharia-compliant bank. In July 2020, he became the Chairman of the Board.In June 2017, he was appointed to the Board of Swala Oil & Gas Tanzania PLC, an oil and gas exploration company listed on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, where he also served as Chairman of Swala’s Audit Committee until early 2023.In August 2017, he became a Certified Director with the Institute of Directors Tanzania.In November 2024, Salem was appointed to the Board of Mbeya Cement Company Limited, where he also serves as a Member of its Audit Committee.
