The fate of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now lies with the Senate this week as he appears before the house before the vote on the impeachment charges. The Senate will hear the case in plenary on Wednesday, October 16, and Thursday, October 17, 2024. Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, Senator for Kericho, will lead the prosecution of the motion received from the National Assembly. Mr. Gachagua and his legal team will have the opportunity to respond and undergo cross-examination.
The highly anticipated case between outspoken lawyer and political activist Miguna Miguna and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i is set to unfold in court this Wednesday, October 16th at the Milimani High Court. Miguna Miguna filed a lawsuit against Matiang’i alongside Karanja Kibicho, accusing the former CS of orchestrating his unlawful deportation from Kenya in 2018, following his involvement in the controversial swearing-in of opposition leader Raila Odinga as the “people’s president.” Miguna has long maintained that his deportation was a violation of his constitutional rights, sparking a heated debate over the government’s handling of dissenting voices.
