Historic G7 Address and EU Summit headline President Ruto’s Agenda
President William Ruto is set to make history by addressing the G7 summit in Italy next week. He is one of only five African heads of state invited to this year’s prestigious event, which marks its 50th meeting. The other African leaders are from Algeria, Egypt, South Africa and Tunisia. African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki and Pope Francis are also scheduled to address the summit. The summit will take place from June 13 – 15 in the city of Fasano, Apulia.
President Ruto has received an invitation from the European Union to attend the Summit on Peace in Ukraine, which is scheduled for June 15-16, 2024, in Bürgenstock, Switzerland. This two-day event will see the participation of over 80 countries, with many represented by their heads of state. The summit aims to address the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War and garner broad international support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s peace proposals, including the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine.

Public Hearings on Finance Bill End, CS Treasury to read Budget Highlights
Today, the Kenyatta International Conference Centre hosts the Public Hearing on the Finance Bill, 2024. Members of the public and stakeholders are invited to provide their oral submissions and present their memoranda on the Bill to the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning.
The Budget Statement for FY 2024/25 will be delivered by the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning on Thursday, 13th June 2024 from 3:00 p.m. in Parliament.

Busia Senator, Okiya Omtatah’s petition challenging the Finance Bill, 2024 is slated for directions this week. In this petition, Sen. Omtatah challenges the constitutionality of the Finance Bill, 2024 arguing that it came before the budget estimates were finalized, going against the Constitution and the Public Finance Management Act.

Public Participation on the Competition law amendments beckons
Stakeholders are reminded of the deadline to submit their memoranda on the draft Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2024, is June 11, 2024.
The objective of the proposed amendments is to ensure that the Competition Act is robust enough to enable the Authority to respond to emerging regulatory issues in the economy, including in the digital market/platforms, and incorporate learnings from our enforcement experience. Further, the Authority shall hold a physical forum on 14th June in Nairobi to collect more views.

Mr. Nyutu has been serving as the Group Finance and ICT Director for Unga Group Plc and its subsidiaries. He is an accomplished management professional with over 20 years of experience. He will provide strategic oversight of the Group’s operations and general management functions.
He has extensive experience in the manufacturing industry and a proven track record of success that will be critical in steering Unga during this transition phase. He is a holder of Masters in Business Administration from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Nairobi, His professional qualifications include Certified Public Accountant (Kenya). Certified Public Secretary (Kenya). Certified Pblic Secretary (Kenya), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Institute for the Management of Information Systems (IMIS).
