President William Ruto has dismissed John Muturi as Cabinet Secretary for the State Department of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special programmes. In his stead, the President nominated Hon. Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku. This dismissal comes after months of defiance from Hon. Muturi after he alleged that his son had been kidnapped on the orders of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General.

Hon. Ruku’s appointment comes as a surprise, as it was widely expected that Mr. Muturi would be replaced by former Embu Senator and Siakago MP Lenny Kivuti, who is also a relative but a political rival.  Despite his termination, Mr. Muturi made strides within the State Department of Public Service. Some of these steps include the appointment of the Waqf Commissioners Selection Panel on July 12, 2023, followed by a letter to the National Treasury and the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to request a budget for the team, as well as the allowances to be paid.  As the Attorney General, he saved the government Sh17.5 billion in legal claims through court defences. He also listed 708 legal advisories on matters of bilateral and international law.
