Ethiopia warns of conflict risks as Egyptian arms shipments reach Somalia

Ethiopia’s foreign minister warned that ammunition supplied to Somalia could worsen conflict and be misused by terrorists following an Egyptian warship’s delivery of heavy weaponry in Mogadishu. This shipment was the second in a month after a joint security pact between Egypt and Somalia. Ethiopia, which has troops in Somalia to combat al Qaeda-linked insurgents, is at odds with Mogadishu over a planned port in Somaliland, leading Somalia to strengthen ties with Egypt amid ongoing tensions over Ethiopia’s hydro dam on the Nile.
