KANU Official Urges Gideon Moi to Seek Presidency, Eyes Mt Kenya Support

John Sakina, a KANU official in Kiambu, has urged former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi to contest the presidency in 2027, arguing that his candidacy could challenge ethnic divisions by demonstrating support for a Kalenjin candidate in the Mt Kenya region. Sakina said KANU’s grassroots structures were gaining strength in Kiambu, although the party still needs to consolidate its support. He also said Moi’s campaign should focus on issues such as healthcare, education and infrastructure rather than ethnic mobilisation. The remarks come as political parties and leaders intensify preparations and realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.

New Ethiopian Dams Pose No Threat, Says Sudanese Former Water Resources Minister

Sudanese water expert Prof Seif al-Din Hamad said Ethiopia’s planned additional dams on the Blue Nile would not necessarily threaten downstream countries if their filling and operation are properly coordinated. He said regulated river flows could benefit Sudan by reducing floods, improving hydropower generation, lowering agricultural pumping costs and supporting more reliable water supplies. He called for stronger cooperation, data sharing and coordinated planning among Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt to maximise these benefits.

Fresh RSF Defection to Sudanese Army Sparks Outrage Over Darfur War Crimes

More than 300 fighters from Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by Brigadier General Musa Khamiseen, have defected to the Sudanese Armed Forces. The move has sparked tensions within the pro-army alliance, with Darfuri groups and rights advocates accusing Khamiseen of involvement in killings and other abuses during the siege and fall of El Fasher. They are calling for his arrest and prosecution, warning that RSF defections should not shield commanders accused of war crimes from accountability.
