Rwanda
Rwanda’s problem with the DRC is FDLR, says Kagame
President Paul Kagame has said Rwanda’s problem with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is the FDLR, a militia founded by remnants of the perpetrators of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, which is armed by the Congolese government. President Kagame said this on Wednesday, following the swearing-in of Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente and the new Members of Parliament.
He said that efforts that sought to neutralise the FDLR over the past 30 years only ended up sustaining it. The President reiterated that Rwanda would not be blamed for the insecurity in eastern DRC. “My problem is the one of FDLR that the [Congolese] government has armed, that the government uses in the fight against the so-called M23, but who are Congolese,” Kagame said.
He dismissed anyone who would want to associate Rwanda with the insecurity in eastern DRC by blaming it for supporting the M23 rebels.

Stakeholders meet in Addis ‘to design Sudan’s political process’
The Secretary-General of the Coordination of Civilian Democratic Forces, Siddiq El Sadig al-Mahdi, praised the consultative approach followed by the African Union (AU) and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in organising this meeting, the importance of which stems from enabling the Sudanese to own and manage the political process.
The main objective of the meeting is to agree on the design of the political process, which includes reaching an agreement on its parties as well as agreeing on urgent issues, most notably the delivery of humanitarian aid, the cessation of hostilities, and the protection of civilians. In addition, the issues of the political process will be agreed upon, with a link to the cessation of hostilities track that began in Jeddah, and we hope that it will be agreed upon in the meeting that the USA will call for the two parties to the war in Switzerland on August 14.
