Load Shedding Looming
President William Ruto recently announced that Kenya Power would implement electricity rationing following a drop in supply and rising reliance on imports from Ethiopia and Uganda. The power cuts, scheduled between 5:00 pm and 10:00 pm, are meant to prevent system overloads and countrywide blackouts when demand outweighs supply. Without Ethiopia’s power, Kenya would have been plunged into a deeper electricity crisis, forcing prolonged blackouts and rationing on alternating days.
