Advocate Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, a respected lawyer and former Chairperson of the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT), was killed while driving home on Tuesday evening. The fatal incident occurred when a gunman on a motorcycle pulled alongside his vehicle and opened fire.

As a senior partner at Kyalo & Associates Advocates, the 45-year old lawyer led a reputable firm known for its expertise in commercial litigation, arbitration, and governance advisory services. His nearly 30-year career involved handling high-profile cases and profitable commercial disputes, establishing him as one of Kenya’s leading legal minds.

The advocate also lectured at the University of Nairobi’s School of Law and the Kenya School of Law, shaping the minds of the next generation of legal practitioners. Mbobu authored ‘The Law and Practice of Evidence in Kenya’, a publication that remains a key text for law students and practitioners nationwide.

Apart from legal practice, his interests extended to corporate governance and conflict resolution. Earlier this year, he was poised to join the board of Coopers Motor Corporation (CMC). He served as a board member of the Institute of Directors Kenya and chaired Quest Holdings Ltd and Core Capital Group Ltd.
