Hon. Abdi Shurie Omar, MP Balambala Constituency
Hon. Abdi Omar Shurie is the Member of Parliament for Balambala Constituency, Garissa County, and is affiliated with the Jubilee Party of Kenya. He was first elected in 2017 and re‑elected in 2022. In the 13th Parliament, he serves as the Chairperson of the National Assembly Public Debt and Privatisation Committee, a position to which he was elected unopposed. Alongside Hon. Kimani Kuria, Chairperson of the Finance and National Planning Committee, he has been leading stakeholder consultations on the proposed partial divestiture of the Government’s shareholding in Safaricom Ltd.
Prior to his current leadership role, Hon. Shurie served on key parliamentary committees during the 12th Parliament (2017–2022), including the Administration and National Security Committee and the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee.
He holds a Master’s degree from African Nazarene University and has been active on constituency-level matters, including contesting census results and advocating for balanced resource allocation.
