Businessman Jaswant Rai, Chairman of the Rai Group, withdrew his bid for Mumias Sugar after President William Ruto got directly involved in the issue and asked him and another investor bidding to gain control of the company to pack up and leave. The President spoke against cartels in the sector and said that the government would renew revival efforts without the encumbrance of court cases to hinder the plans.
