The petition also asks for the Constitution to include the position of chief cabinet secretary. Kevin Kiare and John Wangai have submitted the petition, which, if successful in changing some parts of the constitution, will change the way the government is organised.
  • National Assembly Chief Whip Silvanus Osoro revealed an elaborate scheme used by the ruling coalition, Kenya Kwanza, to defeat the opposition in the vote on the Finance Bill 2023. He stated that the government manipulated MPs to stay away from Parliament during the vote so that it could pass with little opposition.
  • Bipartisan committee co-chair George Murugara has affirmed that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection process will continue as scheduled. This comes in the aftermath of the Azimio coalition team’s absence from a meeting convened by Murugara at the Bomas of Kenya on Tuesday, July 4. The bipartisan committee’s top agenda was finding a solution to the mode of selection of the new IEBC commissioners. During a press conference on Tuesday, Murugara described Azimio’s behaviour as an act of defiance and political posturing.
