Dr. Margaret Nyakang’o is the Controller of Budget of the 4th Republic of Kenya. She took up the job in December 2019 for an eight-year tenure in the Uhuru Kenyatta Administration. Her primary role is to oversee and report on the implementation of budgets for the National and County Governments to Parliament every quarter. She is no stranger to scandal, given the nature of her work. Recently, she made headlines when she stated that her office required an additional Sh579.3 million in the financial year 2025/2026. She asserts that the funding gap has strained its operations, leading to backlash from the political elite.

She holds a doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Liverpool, UK. She also has a Master of Business Administration degree in Strategic Management and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, both from the University of Nairobi. Dr. Nyakang’o is a practicing Fellow of the College of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya.

She is also a recipient of the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) commendation, presented by former President Uhuru Kenyatta. She has received further recognition from ICPAK in 2020 for her outstanding contributions. She has also made significant contributions to the Association of Women Accountants of Kenya (AWAK).

Dr. Nyakang’o has a deeply rooted love for golf, having been an avid golfer even before rising to prominence. Since 2013, she has served as the managing golfer of the year events at the Kenya Ladies Golf Union. She has also served as a voluntary member of the Finance Committee at the Limuru Country Club.
