Significant political event of the week:
  1. On Monday, August 1,  Education CS George Magoha directed schools to release learners for a break ahead of the next week’s polls. He said that this was meant to allow some teachers, who act as polling clerks, deputy presiding officers and presiding officers to prepare ahead of the August 9 polls. He added that the schools listed needed to be marked.
  2. President Uhuru Kenyatta and his DP William Ruto have been having wrangles since their second term. On Monday, the President fired yet another scathing salvo at his deputy, terming him as “evil and a thief”. He warned his Mt Kenya backyard against electing him.
  3. On Monday, ODM Party leader Raila Odinga warned DP Ruto for allegedly insulting the President. He said it was a sign that the DP was sensing defeat. Further, he asked the IEBC to strike off the UDA presidential running mate from the ballot, saying he has been convicted.4. On 4th August, the IEBC suffered a blow after a judge ordered it to ensure a manual voters register is available for use in all polling stations in time for polls on Tuesday. The commission had earlier dismissed demands by Azimio-One Kenya Alliance for the register to be used alongside a digital one, which the electoral agency preferred.
