Significant political event of the week:
- The IEBC denounced claims that government security agencies at JKIA had detained ballot papers allegedly imported outside the indicated schedule of election materials. The Commission said that was fake news and that the correct position was that on 22nd July, the Commission received stickers to aid labelling and distribution of election materials. The JKIA security agencies in their normal procedure were trying to validate the stickers with the Commission.
- The IEBC suspended members of the county assembly (MCA) elections in four wards. This follows the deaths of candidates cleared to vie in the August 9 polls. The affected wards are: Thaana ward in Mwingi West, Kitui; Oloimasani ward in Narok County; South Gem ward in Siaya County and Utawala ward in Embakasi East.
- On Tuesday, July 26, there was a presidential candidates debate where DP Ruto and Agano Party leader Waihiga Mwaure were present while Azimio flag bearer and Roots party leader George Wajackoyah were absent. DP Ruto claimed that Mr Raila snubbed the presidential debate to avoid tough questions. He dismissed Raila’s assertion that he could not face him because he lacks integrity
