EALA MP, Winnie Odinga
Winnie Odinga, the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament (MP) and the youngest daughter of the late Hon. Raila Odinga, has thrust herself into Kenya’s political spotlight amid internal turmoil in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). Following her father’s death, she has publicly challenged the party’s interim leadership under her uncle Hon. Oburu Odinga.
In November 2022, she was nominated by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and elected by Kenya’s Parliament to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) for the 2022–2027 term, where she has focused on youth empowerment, digital rights, and East African integration as one of the body’s youngest members.
Winnie Odinga has built a multifaceted career blending entrepreneurship, strategic communications, and regional politics. She founded The BrickHouse Counsel in 2008, a Nairobi-based consultancy specialising in political branding, digital campaigns, and integrated communications. For years, she served as a key behind-the-scenes aide to her father, the late Hon. Raila Odinga, during his election campaigns.
She was born on March 6, 1990, in Nairobi, Kenya and was named after the South African anti-apartheid icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. She completed primary and secondary education at Rusinga School and Brookhouse International School in Nairobi, respectively. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and Corporate Communication from Drexel University in Philadelphia, USA, in 2009, and later an MBA from United States International University (USIU) in Kenya, which she completed in 2016.
