Defining Week for Koome, Top Judges

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is set to reconvene on Tuesday, 25th February 2025. The meeting will be chaired by Isaac Rutto, the vice-chair, in the absence of the Chief Justice Martha Koome and Justice Isaac Ibrahim. This is in a bid to investigate allegations of judicial misconduct cited in the petitions, seeking to ouster the current Supreme Court Bench.
In retaliation to the JSC sittings, the Chief Justice and the other six justices have sought orders to stop the disciplinary proceedings, pointing to a constitutional crisis looming in the event of a power vacuum of office if the Supreme Court Judges are suspended pending the investigations.
In addition, the CJ believes that the JSC has no oversight over the Supreme Court operations. The conservatory orders obtained by the CJ came at the time that the Supreme Court Judges were required to make their responses to the petitions against them.
