Early tallies from the by-elections indicate that the government-backed camp had an early lead, strengthening President William Ruto’s position ahead of the next general election. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidates led in Kasipul, Ugunja, and Magarini, while the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) recorded strong results in Banisa and the Baringo senatorial race. Several contests remained closely fought, notably in Malava and Mbeere North, where UDA faced stiff competition from the Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP K) and the Democratic Party (DP), turning the races into a test of strength for influential political figures such as Kithure Kindiki and Rigathi Gachagua. The results across the twenty-four areas appeared to favour the ruling side, representing a setback for the united opposition, which hoped to interpret the votes as a reflection of public discontent. The outcomes are likely to influence alliances, test regional power brokers, and shape strategic decisions for the 2027 polls, as both sides reassess their support bases and political influence.
