The Registration of Persons (Amendment) Bill, 2024, sponsored by Kipipiri Member of Parliament (MP) Wanjiku Muhia, proposes to make it mandatory for secondary schools to register all students who turn 18 as voters within 30 days of their birthday. Under the proposed law, schools would have a legal obligation to facilitate the registration process, effectively turning them into voter registration centres for eligible learners. The initiative, which has been reviewed and approved for publication by the Budget and Appropriations Committee, chaired by Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi, seeks to boost youth participation in elections by making voter registration more accessible and routine during the final year of secondary education.
