Anne Wanjiku Mwangi, IPOA Vice Chairperson

Anne Wanjiku Mwangi, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) Vice Chairperson, has emerged as a key figure in the high-profile investigation into the death of teacher and blogger Albert Omondi Ojwang. Recently, she appeared before the Senate plenary alongside the Interior Cabinet Secretary, the Inspector General of Police, the Vice Chairperson of the National Police Service Commission, and the Director of Criminal Investigations. This was in response to a statement sought by Senator Eddy Oketch of Migori regarding the death of Albert Omondi Ojwang  where he demanded answers and urgent action against those responsible.

Ms Mwangi is a seasoned public administrator with over 11 years of experience in Kenya’s public sector, distinguished by her expertise in leadership and administration. She served as Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Office of the Deputy President, where she liaised with legislative bodies, represented the Cabinet Secretary in meetings, and coordinated inter-ministerial activities. Previously, she served as the Board Chairperson of the Trans Nzoia Women Leaders Organisation. She was also a nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Trans Nzoia County from 2017 to 2022. As an advocate for gender equality, she championed gender-focused legislation and actively promoted the rights of girls and women.

Earlier roles include Administrative Officer at the Moi University (Trans Nzoia and Kericho campuses), Gender Officer at Mercy Corps Kenya, and Treasurer of the National Youth Bunge Association. She also founded the Young Women Forum Organisation in 2012.

Ms Mwangi holds a Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree and a Master of Arts in Education Research from Moi University. She also graduated with a Master of Arts in Project Planning and Management from the University of Nairobi. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in Project Planning and Management at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
