The National Treasury will hold Public Sector Hearings on the proposed FY 2027/28 and the Medium-Term Budget from 7 to 9 October 2026 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), with daily sessions starting at 8:30 a.m. The hearings will allow the public and stakeholders to provide input on government spending priorities across key sectors, including health, economic affairs, environment, governance, social protection, public administration, agriculture, education, and energy, infrastructure and ICT. These priorities will be presented on 9 October.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend and to submit their views as part of the national budget-making process. The proceedings will also be available online through a link to be published on the National Treasury’s official website and social media platforms.
The Supreme Court will hear Petition No. SCPT/E020/2026 on 5 October 2026 in a case that could determine who has the final say over the pay and benefits of Members of Parliament and parliamentary staff. The appeal, filed by the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) and other parties, argues that Parliament should be able to manage its own affairs independently of direction from the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
While the PSC says Parliament should have greater independence in fulfilling its constitutional mandate, the SRC maintains that it has the constitutional responsibility to advise on and set remuneration across the public sector. The Supreme Court’s eventual decision is expected to clarify the respective roles of the two institutions and could have lasting implications for the governance of Parliament and other independent commissions.
Kenya’s position as a regional financial technology hub will come into focus when the Africa Fintech and Banking Summit 2026 convenes at the Mercure Hotel, Upper Hill, Nairobi, on 8–9 October. Bringing together central bankers, financial regulators, commercial bank executives, fintech founders, investors, and technology leaders, the summit will examine how digital innovation is reshaping banking and financial services across the continent. Discussions are expected to cover digital banking, financial inclusion, artificial intelligence, embedded finance, open banking, cybersecurity, cross-border payments, and the regulatory frameworks needed to support a fast-evolving financial ecosystem.
Beyond showcasing new technologies, the summit reflects the growing convergence of finance, regulation, and digital policy. As African markets continue to modernise payment systems and expand access to digital financial services, discussions are likely to focus on balancing innovation with consumer protection, strengthening cyber resilience, and fostering greater cross-border interoperability.
Technology’s role in strengthening governance, peacebuilding, and civic participation will take centre stage at the Summit on People-Centred Technologies in Africa, which convenes in Nairobi from 5–7 October 2026. Organised by Code for Africa in partnership with organisations including the Open Society Foundations, Ushahidi, and Andela, the summit will bring together policymakers, innovators, researchers, civil society organisations, funders, and digital rights advocates to examine how technology can be harnessed to build more accountable institutions and resilient communities without compromising privacy or deepening exclusion.
Discussions are expected to focus on civic technology, digital governance, artificial intelligence, misinformation, community resilience, and the ethical use of emerging technologies. The summit also offers an important platform for African innovators, particularly youth- and women-led enterprises, to showcase practical solutions that advance peace, transparency, and public participation.
