Rironi-Naivasha Road Dualling Targeted for Completion By 30 October 

Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Davis Chirchir says the dualling of the Rironi-Naivasha road will be completed by 30 October. 

“By October 30, from Rironi to Naivasha, we will have completed the dualling and opened the road to traffic,” Chirchir said during a development tour in Bomet County. 

He said construction would then proceed to the Naivasha-Nakuru section, followed by the escarpment section from Kamandura.

Uganda 

Ugandan Traders Begin Returning Home Amid Kenya Crackdown 

Some Ugandan nationals operating small businesses in Nairobi and other parts of Kenya have begun returning home following the Kenyan Government’s directive targeting foreign nationals engaged in small-scale businesses. 

President William Ruto issued the directive on 2 September 2026, saying foreign nationals should not compete with Kenyan citizens in businesses such as hawking and small-scale retail. 

The directive took effect on 7 September, when Kenyan authorities began enforcing the order against foreign traders.

Tanzania 

Tanzania Launches Climate-Smart Dairy Competition 

The Government, in partnership with Heifer International Tanzania and other stakeholders, has launched the Tanzania Climate-Smart Dairy Prize Competition 2026-2028. 

The three-year initiative aims to increase milk production, market access and incomes for livestock keepers in Iringa, Njombe, Mbeya and Morogoro. 

Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Ng’wasi Kamani said the Government would work with stakeholders to establish a results-based system for measuring the impact of services provided to livestock keepers.

Rwanda 

Industrial Output Rises 6.6% in July 

Rwanda’s formal-sector industrial output rose 6.6 per cent in July 2026 compared with the same month a year earlier, according to the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR). 

Growth was recorded across mining, manufacturing, electricity, and water and waste management. Manufacturing led with 49.2 per cent year-on-year growth, followed by electricity at 18.5 per cent and water and waste management at 12.6 per cent. 

Mining and quarrying output increased by 4.7 per cent, while the annual average growth rate stood at 6.4 per cent.

Ethiopia 

PM Abiy Inaugurates Expanded Mojo Logistics Centre 

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has inaugurated the first phase of the expanded Mojo logistics centre, describing it as a major step in strengthening Ethiopia’s logistics capacity and advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). 

The 60-hectare hub includes terminals and warehouses that can handle up to one million 20-foot containers annually. It is also expected to support domestic packaging of dry bulk cargo, reduce foreign-currency outflows and create employment.

Sudan 

Zoyaal Holding Restarts Oil Production at Fina One Field 

Sudanese conglomerate Zoyaal Holding Group has resumed crude oil production at its Fina One project at an initial rate of 10,000 barrels per day (bpd), following a shutdown caused by the conflict. 

The project began producing about 5,000 bpd in 2023 before fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces disrupted energy infrastructure. 

Zoyaal operates assets across north-western Sudan and north-eastern Libya near Concession 103, known as the Intisar field, in the Jalu-Awjila area along the Libyan-Sudanese border.

Somalia 

Somalia Steps Up Flood Preparedness Ahead of Super El Niño 

The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), H.E. Mahmoud Moallim, met FAO Country Director for Somalia Eric Peterschmitt to discuss humanitarian needs and preparedness for Super El Niño. 

The discussions focused on strengthening flood prevention and mitigation, including reinforcing river defences and securing vulnerable sections along waterways. 

Mahmoud also briefed the FAO representative on his recent visit to Hiiraan, one of the areas most vulnerable to flooding, and called for greater coordination to protect lives and livelihoods.
