From Tuesday, 11th August to Thursday, 13th August 2026, the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Energy will hold public and stakeholder scrutiny sessions on Sessional Paper No. 5 of 2026 on the National Energy Policy at Parliament Buildings, Nairobi. The updated policy paper establishes a modernized regulatory framework for power generation, retail tariffs, grid expansion, and independent power producer (IPP) contracts as Kenya seeks to transition fully to renewable energy and lower electricity costs for domestic and industrial consumers.

The committee’s review comes at a critical juncture for Kenya’s energy sector, addressing long-standing structural challenges such as high-power tariffs, grid reliability, and clean energy transition targets. Committee members are expected to engage key Ministry of Energy officials, energy sector state corporations, and private power producers to ensure the policy provides clear investment incentives while safeguarding consumer tariffs and promoting local content in renewable energy projects across the country.
