Poll Signals More Competitive Race Ahead of 2027 Elections
Kenya’s political landscape is becoming increasingly competitive ahead of the 2027 General Election, according to the Tifa Election Readiness Report, 2026. The report shows declining support for the dominant ODM (20%) and UDA (17%), while newer parties such as Rigathi Gachagua’s Democratic Congress Party (DCP) are gaining traction. The poll found that 52 per cent of respondents oppose the UDA-ODM broad-based government, signalling growing public discontent with the arrangement. It also shows that a majority of ODM supporters now back the dissident ‘Linda Mwananchi’ faction led by figures such as Edwin Sifuna, highlighting internal divisions within the party. President William Ruto remains the frontrunner with 24 per cent support. However, the opposition vote is fragmented among several contenders, underscoring an increasingly open presidential race. The survey further highlights persistent youth voter registration challenges, with a lack of national identification documents remaining a key barrier to electoral participation among younger Kenyans.
