President Ruto Pushes Forward with NYOTA Programme
President William Ruto is expected to maintain a strong focus on the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme between February 9 and 11, 2026, reflecting his shift toward domestic engagement, youth empowerment, and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections. The NYOTA rollout is being implemented in phases across regions. The Coast phase concluded in Mombasa, covering Mombasa, Kwale, and Taita Taveta counties, while the final phase is scheduled for February 11, 2026, in Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa counties. The President has been directly involved in these events, often alongside Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and local leaders. The forums feature disbursement of start-up capital, mentorship initiatives, and commitments to inclusive development. Ongoing Interviews by the Judicial Service Commission
The key development in Kenya’s courts between February 7 and 13, 2026, will be the Judicial Service Commission’s ongoing interviews for 20 High Court judge vacancies. The interviews, which began on February 4, are expected to continue on weekdays through early March and are being livestreamed on the Commission’s YouTube channel. The exercise involves 100 shortlisted candidates from diverse legal backgrounds. The recruitment seeks to reduce case backlogs and improve court efficiency, following the recent swearing-in of 15 Court of Appeal judges.

Dennis Gicheru, FKF Acting General Secretary and CEO
On February 6, 2026, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) appointed Dennis Gicheru (previously Head of Legal Affairs at FKF) as the Acting General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer. This followed the sacking of Harold Ndege from the CEO/General Secretary role. Gicheru’s appointment is interim, pending the advertisement and substantive filling of the position. As Head of Legal Affairs at FKF, he oversaw ethical governance, match-fixing investigations, and legal disputes within Kenyan football. Earlier, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Wazito FC. He is also a former footballer who played as a defender. An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Kenyatta University graduate, he specialises in sports administration law. His appointment comes amid internal federation disputes and is viewed as a move to strengthen governance and institutional stability.
