Bungoma County Senator Wafula Wakoli
Senator Wafula Wakoli has been appointed by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) as the Senate Majority Whip, succeeding Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale in the position. He currently serves as the Senator for Bungoma County, having won a by-election in 2022 with 66,032 votes, defeating UDA’s Mwambu Mabonga (45,907 votes) and Azimio’s Wafula Wamunyinyi (20,519 votes). The by-election was held to fill the vacancy left by Moses Wetang’ula, who vacated the seat.
In 2013, Wakoli entered politics and served as the manager and personal assistant to the National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula, until September 2022. This close working relationship with Wetang’ula positioned him to succeed his former boss in the Senate. His appointment as Senate Majority Whip marks a notable milestone in his political journey.
Before entering politics, Wakoli had a career in education, beginning as a management teacher at Bungoma High School and Baptist Secondary School. In 2011, the Teachers Service Commission employed him, and he was posted to Friends Milima Secondary School in Tongaren, where he taught until 2013.
Born in June 1983, Wakoli attended St. Peter Mumias Primary School and Musingu High School in Kakamega. He later obtained a Bachelor of Education degree from Egerton University.
