Governor Kahiga Resigns from CoG
On Wednesday, Nyeri County Governor Mutahi Kahiga resigned with immediate effect from his position as Vice-Chair of the Council of Governors (CoG) following comments on the death of the late Hon. Raila Odinga. The Governor made remarks at a funeral during which he suggested that Odinga’s demise was part of a “divine intervention” benefiting the Mt. Kenya Region. Specifically, in Kikuyu, he stated, “I don’t have a problem with anyone but God looks out for us because the plan that was there, all development was going to Nyanza because of the future, since we looked like we are no longer loved, and God came and did something. Now people are back on the drawing board. The plans that were there were to leave us out, but who is God, does He eat ugali in anyone’s house, and does he sleep in Kayole?” implying that the former Prime Minister’s passing had caused a reset of development opportunity flows.
