MCA Robert Alai has been accused of delaying a defamation case filed by veteran broadcaster Obachi Machoka against him for stating that he was HIV positive. The last time the matter was in court, Obachi’s lawyer Danstan Omari expressed concern that Alai had not filed any responses to the matter months after it was filed. Alai’s lawyer who was new to the case at the time sought for more time to file their documents and responses. The case will be mentioned on September 30 2025 to confirm compliance.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is marking 20 years of resilience, sacrifice, and commitment to democracy and justice. The celebrations will take place from October 10th to 12th, 2025, in Mombasa, reflecting on the Party’s struggles, victories, and vision for a just and prosperous Kenya. Absa Bank Kenya PLC has appointed Senior Counsel Mohammed Nyaoga, as the Chairman of its Board of Directors, effective October 1, 2025. He succeeds Charles Muchene, whose nine-year tenure as a Director and Chairman concludes on September 30, 2025.
Mr. Nyaoga is the Senior Partner at Mohammed Muigai Advocates, where he specializes in corporate finance, civil, and commercial litigation. Over the course of his career, he has held numerous leadership roles, including serving as Chairman of the Central Bank of Kenya, Ecobank Kenya, the International Commission of Jurists (Kenya Chapter), and the Commission of Inquiry into the Suspension of the County Government of Makueni. He was also Vice–Chairman of the Law Reform Commission, where he chaired its Business Laws Committee, as well as Chairman of the Mining Licences Task Force. In addition, he has served as a Director of the Capital Markets Authority and as a member of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) External Experts Panel in Washington, D.C.
He currently chairs the African Development Bank Group’s Disclosure and Access to Information Appeals Panel. Beyond governance, he is a certified corporate governance training consultant with the Centre for Corporate Governance, a consultant and trainer in procurement with the State University of New York (SUNY Kenya), and a lecturer in the University of Nairobi’s School of Law, where he teaches Public Procurement and Accounting Law in the LLM programme
Mr. Nyaoga was called to the Bar in 1985. He holds LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Nairobi, a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, and professional qualifications as a Certified Public Secretary (CPS) and Certified Company Director. He is also a member of the Institute of Directors of Kenya. In recognition of his distinguished service, he was awarded the Presidential honor of Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS).
