E-Commerce Policy

This Monday, 21st July, marks the deadline for submitting public comments on the draft E-Commerce Policy. The policy aims to provide a structured framework to guide the development, growth, and regulation of e-commerce in Kenya, with a focus on creating a more inclusive and well-governed digital economy. There shall be a hybrid public participation meeting on Wednesday, 23rd July 2025 to collate further views.

40,000 Jobs Under the Climate Worx Programme

Starting Monday, July 21, 2025, 40,000 youth will begin work under the government’s Climate Worx programme, as President William Ruto moves to double current employment figures and accelerate job creation for young people. Speaking during a tour of Soweto, Nairobi, Ruto acknowledged the scale of youth unemployment and pledged to further scale up opportunities through the affordable housing and market projects, which have already absorbed over 300,000 youth. He announced plans to raise this number to 600,000 within three months, alongside community investments such as a stadium, school, hospital, and social hall set to begin construction in September.

The Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics (ABCDE)

The Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics (ABCDE), hosted by the World Bank, will take place virtually from 22nd to 25th July 2025. This year’s theme is “Development in the Age of Populism,” and the conference will bring together leading economists, global development experts, policymakers, and multilateral partners to explore how rising populist politics are shaping economic decision-making and global development priorities.

Marion Gathoga Mwangi

Marion Gathoga Mwangi has been appointed as the Managing Director of Inchcape Kenya. In her new role, Gathoga-Mwangi will oversee the company’s operations across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Previously, Gathoga worked as the CEO of Standard Group, which she joined in the third quarter of 2023. She left Standard Group in June 2025. Before joining the Standard, Marion held several executive roles with The Linde Group PLC companies. Prior to this, she worked as the Head of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, Kenya. She served as the Director of Healthcare at Africa Oxygen (AFROX), Director of Sales and Marketing at Circle Pharmaceuticals, Division Manager at Bayer Pharmaceuticals, and Product Specialist at Nestle Foods Kenya. 

Her leadership also included roles as Business Unit Director of the Bulk and Onsite Manufacturing Business in South Africa and Managing Director at BOC Kenya PLC. She has previously held senior leadership positions, including Country Director at Cadbury Kenya and East Africa Limited, General Manager at Unga Limited Pic (Seaboard Corporation) and Country Director, Parmalat Botswana Pty in Gaborone, Botswana. The former CEO has also served as a Non-Executive Director at leading companies including BAT Kenya PLC, BOC Kenya PLC and the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM).

Gathoga holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in International Business Administration from the United States International University (USIU), Kenya. She is a part-time Academic Director of the Women in Leadership program at Strathmore Business School (SBS).
