Former Justice Minister Martha Karua is set to attend the Trial of Besigye in Uganda on 2nd December 2024. She is set to lead Dr. Besigye’s legal team, taking over from Mayor Lukwage. Her decision to lead the team in this trial is based on the recent abduction of Dr. Besigye from Nairobi on 16th November 2024, during which she has been vocal in her criticism of both the Ugandan and Kenyan governments for orchestrating such actions.
The National Assembly is set to conduct Mr. Abdi Ahmed Mohamud, MBS, ‘s approval hearing on 3rd December 2024. Mr. Abdi has been nominated for the position of Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Commission. The National Assembly has called for submissions and memoranda contesting the suitability of Mr. Abdi’s appointment to be made to the clerk of the National Assembly via email on or before 2nd December 2024.
The 11th Annual Kenya Diaspora Home-Coming Convention will be held on the 9th -11 December 2024. The diaspora has been at the forefront of Foreign Direct Investments in Kenya, with them remitting a whopping USD4.19B (KES670B) in 2023. This sum is expected to increase in the coming years as they learn of more ways to invest in the country. The Convention is set against the backdrop of the 5th Industrial Era. The Convention aims to bring together a host of government leaders and representatives, private sector leaders, civil society specialists, business entrepreneurs, academics, and students, all focused on contributing to the Kenyan economy.
The Lake Turkana Wind Power Company has appointed George Njenga as the Executive Chairman. The appointment is effective from 1st November 2024. He holds a degree in Chemistry from the University of Nairobi and a master’s degree in Energy from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Michigan Business School. Mr. Njenga has led multi-million-dollar businesses and projects across Africa and worked in the Middle East and Asia, covering oil and gas, renewable energy, and power generation. His business leadership roles have included CEO of EA Infrastructure Platform (A.P. Moller Capital) and chairman of Thika Power and Iberafrica Power (EA.) Limited, Chairman and CEO of General Electric (GE) South Africa, and CEO of GE Renewable Energy Sub-Sahara Africa. He has also held several other senior country and regional roles with GE and Caltex/Chevron.
