Ahmed Issack Hassan
Ahmed Issack Hassan is a lawyer by profession and an international elections consultant with over 30 years of progressive practical experience in legal practice, public administration and election management. His international experience includes legal consultancy in Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Namibia, and Afghanistan.
Hassan was recently nominated as the new Chairperson of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).
He holds an LL.B from the University of Nairobi, a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law, and a Diploma in Advanced Public Administration Management from the Galilee International Management Institute (GIMI) in Israel.
He served as Chairperson of Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of Kenya from November 2011 to January 20, 2017. Before that, he served as chairperson of the Interim Independent Electoral Commission of Kenya (IIEC) from May 2009 to November 2011 and as a Commissioner of the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission (CKRC) from 2000 to 2006. He was the director of the Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) from December 2007 to April 2009.
He was a legal Consultant with UNDP Somalia in the Somalia Constitution Making Project between July 2008 to May 2009. He has served as an International Elections Consultant for the United Nations Election Support Projects in Afghanistan and Somalia. Since September 2018 to date, Hassan has served as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI), which is a Government of Kenya Institution responsible for Intellectual Property Rights. He is among 31 legal professionals shortlisted by the Judicial Service Commission in May 2022 for appointment as Court of Appeal judges.
