Who is Who: Mercy Jebet Tarus
Twenty five year old Mercy Jebet Tarus is an outspoken activist who graduated from Kabarak University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. She gained prominence for her fearless remarks during the Ksh 1.1 billion Finland and Canada Education Programme scandal, which led to her receiving the prestigious Uzalendo Award in 2023. Mercy is similarly recognised as one of the prominent agitators during nationwide protests against the Finance Bill, 2024.
She is the founder of the Kenya Ni Home Initiative, born from the popular phrase she coined, “Kenya Ni Home.” The initiative is dedicated to promoting civic education across the country, empowering citizens to better understand their rights and responsibilities. As the founder of MEPA, Mercy is a passionate advocate for human rights and mental health. In addition to her activism, she is a poet. She launched her debut book, If Tomorrow Comes Without Me in October 2024.
