Profile: Kasmuel McOure

 

Kasmuel McOure is a 33-year-old activist who rose to prominence for his outspokenness this year during the Gen Z protests against the Finance Bill, 2024. Kasmuel claims he was abducted by the police after participating in protests, even though netizens have questioned this. 

Currently, he is a partnerships associate at Global Citizen on broader social impact initiatives but is also a music educator and consultant. Kasmuel is the founder and director of Maskani Big Band and KasKazini Muziki, where he has been instructing students and helping them develop and refine their musical abilities since 2016. He also has KasKazini Peanut, an all-natural peanut butter brand. 

 

A former Alliance High School student, his academic experience was marked by challenges, including grappling with socioeconomic differences, bullying, and personal trauma. Despite this, he emerged resilient, excelling academically and attained an A- from Maranda High School after facing indefinite suspension from Alliance. Kasmuel is very vocal about his mental health challenges and has spoken on various platforms detailing his struggles. He has a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance and Financial Management from the Technical University of Kenya, graduating with honours. He also has various certifications from high-profile institutions. 

 

Kasmuel is also an active fellow of prestigious global initiatives, including the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and the Global Citizen x BeyGOOD Fellowship.  He is also a nature lover, artivist, and budding financial analyst.
