EXECUTIVE BUZZ
Kenya is currently hosting the 3rd Session of the Kenya-Somalia Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC), with the second session of these discussions taking place today. The event will be co-chaired by Prime Cabinet Secretary Dr. Musalia Mudavadi and his counterpart, Dr. Korir Singoei.
The sessions are divided into two parts: Senior Officials segment Meetings which took place from May 3rd to May 5th, followed by Ministerial sessions today, Monday, May 6th. The agenda will revolve around enhancing cooperation in various key sectors including trade, infrastructure, security, agriculture, tourism, health, education, and the blue economy. Additionally, the JCC will be succeeded by a visit from the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Bare.

The National Assembly Members to the Select Committee will be holding its sittings this week to investigate the grounds contained in the Special Motion resolved by the House for the dismissal of Hon. Francis Mithika Linturi as the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development. The Select Committee will be expected to table a report of its findings on Monday 13th May 2024.

MURANG'A GRAFT SUSPECT MWANGI WA IRIA RELEASED FROM REMAND
Following compliance with the Anti-Corruption Court’s bond terms on the 3rd of May, 2024, graft suspect Mwangi wa Iria, former Murangá County Governor, will be released from Industrial Area Remand Prison.
Appearing before Milimani Anti-Corruption Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki on Tuesday, 30th April, 2024, the accused pleaded not guilty to various corruption charges. He was released on a Kes. 20 million bond or in the alternative pay a cash bail of Kes. 10 million.
The former Governor is charged alongside his wife Jane Waigwe Kimani, brother-in-law Solomon Mutura, Personal Assistant Peter Muturi Karanja and others in relation to tenders for media and publicity irregularly awarded to a company linked to them known as Top Image Consultants at a cost of Kes.562 million during the Financial Years 2014/2015 and 2015/2016.

TALKING OF WHICH
3rd Sub-Committee on Tax and Illicit Financial Flows of the Specialized Technical Committee on Finance, Monetary Affairs, Economic Planning, and Integration.
The 3rd Meeting of the Sub-committee on Tax and Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) will take place in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from 8 to 10 May 2024 under the theme: “Strengthening Africa’s Leadership in the Continental and Global Tax Reforms”. The theme is broad to focus on Africa’s ability to enhance its revenue generation capacity amidst evolving international tax norms and debates.

WATCH OUT FOR Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit
The Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health summit will be held to deliberate on Africa’s recent widespread decades-long decline in soil quality of farmland – a phenomenon that continues today and negatively impacts the agricultural production capacity and food security in the continent.
In response to the recommendation of AU policy organs, the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Environment (DARBE) of the African Union is organising the AFSH summit in collaboration with AUDA-NEPAD, RECs and Partners.
The Summit will take place from the 7th to the 9th May 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya, Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC)

Mr. Geoffrey Odundo, an esteemed leader in the African financial markets, has been appointed as the Executive Advisor to the CFP Group. Mr Odundo will play a pivotal role in CFP’s strategic expansion into new markets across the Pan-African region. He takes with him a wealth of experience to CFP Group, having previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), where he was instrumental in its development into the fifth largest exchange in Africa.

During a press release by the African Union: Panel of the wise of matters of Strategic Directions and Leadership Transition, announced the appointment of Hon. Lady Justice Effie Owuor, retired Judge of the Court of Appeals of Kenya, as the new Chair of the Panel of the wise from 2024 to 2025.
