Today, Speaker Moses Wetangula has called for a special session of the National Assembly. The primary agenda is to deliberate on the report compiled by the Select Committee, which has been investigating allegations directed at Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi. This summon coincides with the deadline for the Committee to present its findings to the house. In addition to dissecting the Committee’s report, Members of Parliament (MPs) are tasked with reviewing amendments put forth by the Senate concerning the Division of Revenue Bill. Simultaneously, the house is expected to undertake final work on the National Disaster Risk Management Bill.

The African Development Bank Group Annual Meeting 2024

To meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, Africa needs about US$1.3 trillion yearly. This requires an urgent reform of the global financial architecture to bridge the financing gap- which is expected to widen as Africa’s population grows rapidly. The annual meeting will celebrate the African Development Bank’s 60th anniversary, aim to propose concrete steps to mobilise resources for Africa’s structural transformation and to discuss the reform of the international financial system for better support of Africa’s development needs.

Taking place on the 27th of May, 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya, The African Development Bank Group annual meetings will convey up to 3,000 delegates, including African heads of state, ministers, central bank governors, members of the development community, the private sector, and other stakeholders will attend.

High-level discussions will include reforming global financial architecture, the Bank’s vision at 60, and strategies for financing Africa’s transformation amidst global financial changes, with a focus on leveraging natural capital for economic productivity.

The Finance Bill 2024 is likely to be laid before the National Assembly’s special session today. The Bill is a key component of the budget cycle as it makes proposals on how the government intends to finance its budget for a financial year.

Ms. Patricia Kiwanuka has been appointed as an independent Non-Executive Director of Sameer Africa PLC with effect from 6th May, 2024.

Ms. Kiwanuka is an accomplished financial services and management expert, currently Managing Director and Founder of the Revenu Stream Limited. She has worked for more than 20 years in Eastern Africa at leading financial institutions including UAP – Old Mutual Group, Sanlam (formerly AIG Investments) and Zamara (Alexander Forbes) Financial Services. Ms. Kiwanuka holds board positions at NSE Clear Ltd and AAR Insurance Kenya. She is a trustee on the board of Banki Kuu (CBK) Scheme and is the chairperson at NSE Derivatives Product Advisory Committee. She is a CFA(R) Charter holder and member of the CFA Institute – USA, a Council member of the Institute of Certified Financial Analysts, ICIFA–Kenya.
