SENATE IN RECESS, NATIONAL ASSEMBLY RESUMES WITH THE HEALTHCARE IMPASSE TO FORM MAJOR AGENDA

The Senate is currently in recess, and will resume on April 16, 2024. 

The National Assembly resumes its sessions on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Following the remarks by Speaker Hon. Moses Wetangula and the Minority Leader, Hon. Opiyo Wandayi that Parliament potentially has the solution to the impasse, it is likely that legislators will pick up debate on how to unlock the impasse. 

Embakasi East legislator, Hon. Babu Owino is also expected to table the impeachment motion against the Health CS, Susan Nakhumicha this week, for deliberation.

DRAFT OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND WORK INJURY REGULATORY FRAMEWORKS UP FOR PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

In a notice to the public, the Secretary, Occupational Safety and Health, has invited comments from the public on the following draft documents:

  • The Draft National Occupational Safety and Health Policy, 2024. 
  • The Draft Occupational Safety and Health Bill, 2024, and
  • The Draft Workers’ Injury Compensation Bill, 2024. 

These documents are available for download on the State Department for Labour website www.labour.go.ke

10TH AFRICA REGIONAL FORUM ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The tenth session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD-10) will be jointly organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in collaboration with the African Union Commission, the African Development Bank and the United Nations system organizations.

The Forum will focus on Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063 and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: The effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions. The forum intends to analyze the progress of implementation of SDGs considering the 2030 Agenda.

The Forum will be preceded by pre-events, to be held from 17 April to 22 April 2024 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Forum will also feature selected side events aligned with the theme and subthemes of the Forum.

Robert Masinde

Robert Masinde is the newly appointed CEO of Solv Kenya, effective April 1st, 2024.

Robert brings with him a wealth of experience as an entrepreneur and leader in the digital finance sector. His background includes notable roles in banking and finance, with senior positions held at Citigroup and Standard Bank South Africa (Stanbic). At Standard Bank, he served as Director & Global Head of Payment Product Management, where he spearheaded the bank’s corporate payment strategy across 39 countries.

Returning to Kenya in 2013, Robert founded Micro Mobile Ltd, a pioneering venture offering micro-lending services exclusively through mobile platforms. He later served as CEO of Zenka Finance, playing a pivotal role in establishing the brand within the country’s financial landscape. His expertise has also been sought after by international organizations, with engagements at the IFC, World Bank, and as Lead Consultant for Fintech Strategy Development for the government of Rwanda.

Robert’s contributions extend beyond business ventures, as evidenced by his roles as Chairman of the Digital Lenders Association of Kenya (DLAK) and involvement in various committees focused on advancing digital finance within Kenya’s regulatory framework. With an MBA from Oxford University, a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, and being a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya, Robert brings a robust blend of academic prowess and practical industry experience to his new role at Solv Kenya. 

Prof. Nura Mohamed

Prof. Nura Mohamed, Ph.D. is the Acting Director General of the Kenya School of Government effective April 1, 2024, following the expiry of the term in office of Prof. Ludeki Chweya as Director General. The Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management made the appointment.
